Pixham Art (Anyone can learn to draw and paint)

The new group started well with 18 people applying for 14 places.
The aim was to teach those who had felt let down by their art teaching at school etc., to learn the basic principles of drawing and painting, (A sort of First term at Art School).
The first venue, St. Mary’s vestry, proved too small, so we moved into the main church for week 2 and beyond. However, we were forced into looking for a new venue for one week and found the Pixham Scout Hut an excellent alternative, so I plan to use that in future.
We went through a structured course of drawing (staring with drawing a simple box and cylinders in line and tone (learning basic observation through measurement and perspective and to create depth on the page). We moved on to basic watercolour techniques such as washes and wet on wet technique.
Some students have (inevitably) found it easier than others but the results overall have been very encouraging.
The end of the 10 week course is nigh in December and a new 10 week course starts in the bigger venue – the Scout hut in Pixham Lane - on 20th January.
People wishing to apply should email Richard.waldron@yahoo.co.uk.
The course aims to teach drawing and painting from a sound structured beginning, leading them to have enough self confidence to enjoy their art individually – or to continue learning with this or another class.
The photos show some of the present group members at work on watercolour beginnings.
I hope to show some of the resultant work in the near future.
